Policy Recommendations for Safeguarding Data in Pokémon GO

A policy-oriented data visualization project analyzing the ethical, legal, and social implications of Pokémon GO’s ‘Adventure Sync’ feature. This work critically examined user data collection, health data tracking, privacy risks, surveillance capitalism, and ethical AR design, with a focus on transparency, informed consent, and regulatory frameworks in British Columbia.

Through research synthesis, stakeholder mapping, and visual communication, the project proposed evidence-based policy recommendations to safeguard sensitive user data while balancing gameplay benefits and societal risks.
